What is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise method, designed to elongate, strengthen and restore the body to balance. Pilates is a unique form of body conditioning that focuses on training both mind and body allowing you to become stronger from the inside out. It will help to correct your posture and strengthen your deep core muscles, helping you achieve a whole new body shape.

It is this holistic approach that sets Pilates apart from many other forms of exercise. Osteopaths, physiotherapists and general practitioners recommend Pilates as one of the safest forms of exercise today. Pilates can be beneficial for just about everyone, regardless of age and fitness level.

Pilates is named after Joseph Pilates, who formulated the movements in the 1920's. The Pilates technique has been practiced for many years but has recently had lots of publicity through celebrity endorsement for it's sculpting and toning purposes and with the sporting celebrities to help improve their performance and protect against injuries.

The Benefits of Pilates?

"Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. In order to achieve happiness, it is imperative to gain mastery of your body. If at the age of 30 you are stiff and out of shape, you are old. If at 60 you are supple and strong then you are young." Joseph Pilates
